Dressing Your Bump (Part II)

Dressing Your Bump (Part II)

The bump is definitely out there, and you no longer look like you just had a huge lunch. It’s time to do some serious shopping in the maternity wear department. Here are some tips to look stylish while donning maternity garb.

The challenge: I don’t want to spend too much on maternity clothes. How can I dress well on a budget?

Suggestion: Get a few essential separates such as a dress, two tops and bottoms. Invest in clothes that will grow with you. Look for pieces with details like tie-backs, wraps and gathering at the sides. This will let you adjust your clothing as your body grows and changes. Wear a belly band from the fifth month onwards or whenever your tummy feels heavy and needs support.

The challenge: My boobs are spilling out of my clothes.

Suggestion: Avoid tight body-hugging clothes, especially in the bust area. Cowl-neck tops are flattering without being too sexy. Also invest in a few good bras. You may want to consider getting maternity or nursing bras for greater comfort.

The challenge: I need a few items that will take me from work to weekend.

Suggestion: Choose clothes in a comfortable material in classic silhouettes. Dresses in bamboo cotton can go from work to weekend (paired with a belt and cardigan). Wrap dresses – in a sleek, solid colour or a colour-blocked pattern --  flaunt your curves. They look stylish for the office yet comfortable for running errands on the weekend.
